We recently included this article titled “Defend your DNA & Spring into SkinCare” in Phoenix Swim Club’s Newsletter. While directed specifically to swimming, the message fundamentally remains the same for any  sporting activity where practice, training and competition are consistently outdoors.

“As athletes, and parents of athletes, you know the importance of physical conditioning.  You’ve worked all winter to achieve ultimate performance, and now you’re put to the test.

You push your body, and mind.  You are at your competitive best. What you may have overlooked, as we often do, is our skin. Swimmers, with exposure to harsh chlorine and pool chemicals, plus sun, wind, and harsh temperature, are most vulnerable to skin damage. Previse is here to help you bring your skin to it’s competitive best, and maintain your DNA to prevent future damage”.

Here’s how to get your skin to it’s fighting best.

  • First, we strongly recommend sunscreen each and everyday. That goes for you too parents.  Critical is preventing long-term exposure to UVB (burning), and UVA radiation.
  • Previse recommends a minimum of 15, and ideally 30 Broad Spectrum SPF. UVA is longer wave ultraviolet radiation that penetrates deeply into our dermis.  Because there is no burning sensation, it has the potential of causing the most damage.
  • Previse recommends our three-minute skin health regimen twice daily to help improve your DNA, and prevent future damage.  Previse, a word in the English dictionary, literally means to “know in advance; to foresee.” Prevention is our passion, and we are here to assist.
  • Step 1.0, PURIFY – Purify helps gently remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and other contaminants from your skin. Unlike cleansers and soaps, Purify is free of harsh sulfates and surfactants that can damage your DNA.
  • Step 2.0, NUTRIFY. – Nutrify is critical for all you swimmers.  Our unique recipes help hydrate skin, fight free radicals, and waterborne pollutants or additives like chlorine.
  • Step 3.0, DEFEND. – Defend is our pre-sun solution. Defend helps to prevent skin damage from sun exposure while aiding in the protection of skin cells, collagen density and elasticity over time.
  • In June of 2011 the US Food and Drug Administration announced that in 2012, products that have an SPF of at least 15 are the only sunscreens that will be able to claim they reduce the risk for skin cancer and protect against sunburn. Please check that your product states “Broad Spectrum.”  Otherwise your product is only protecting against UVB radiation.
  • Finally, please remember to reapply a broad spectrum lip balm with SPF, wear 100% UV protective sunglasses to help your eyes, seek shade, and wear a hat (preferably wide brimmed) when in the elements for a extended period of time.

How do you Previse?
